Themes in the Relationship— What Brought You Together

Together you can build a
solid, secure relationship, a place of refuge and strength, but you
must take care not to make it a prison with too much emphasis on
commitment, responsibility, and duty. Arnold, in particular, has a
strong parental attitude towards Maria, providing stability and
support, yet also restricting, disciplining, or criticizing Maria's
emotional, childish needs. Arnold can be cool and indifferent towards
Maria's neediness. A pessimistic, heavy, serious atmosphere may
develop between the two of you.

careful not to harshly criticize or judge Maria. There is a strong

sensitive to criticism. There is an element of truth to both

and the like is one feature of your relationship. Actively doing
things without selfish reward will help to fulfill, at least in part,
the purpose of your relationship. Avoid associating with people who
have unhealthy dependencies and who don't want to better themselves,
because this can sap your energies considerably.

Quite simply, one of your
purposes in being together is to create and express beauty, whether
this is in the form of a beautiful, loving relationship, or gracious
and artful works. There can also be an element of vanity, artifice,
or wanting to show-off, the desire to be seen and recognized as a
Beautiful Couple, whether or not that's entirely true. Hiding or
downplaying your difficulties and the ugly parts of your relationship
may be helpful to a point, but if you try to maintain this image of
yourselves as a happy, loving twosome despite your actual conflicts,
then deeper troubles may never get attended to. However, whatever
friction, dissonance, or ill will develops between you, there will
also always be an urge to harmonize, reconcile, and ease your
differences, and to create cooperation. It will take a lot for the
two of you to ever turn against each other entirely.

At best, the two of you
will take your relationship with each other seriously, and are
willing to work on the problems you have. A strong sense of
responsibility, even obligation, toward one another permeates your

and a sense of heaviness, and that there is meager reward for all of
the effort required. There will be very little easy pleasure and

of your togetherness. It is rather easy for distance and separateness

On the other hand, you
may want very much to be close but circumstances or fate prevent this
from occurring. In either case, frustrated love feelings and
inhibitions about giving and receiving wholeheartedly are bound to be
a major challenge with the two of you. A feeling of restriction and
containment, and emotional congestion makes it difficult for either
of you to be truly joyful together. However, if you are not seeking
bliss, and a more subdued, committed bond is what you want, this may

extremely potent force, and together you can effect enormous change
(for good or ill) in your own and others' lives. Trying to force
change in a willful, dominating manner or in a fanatical, intolerant

either of you wills the other to improve or wishes to fundamentally
alter the other's nature, furious battles will be waged between you.
There is an extremely
competitive energy between you, and even if you have believed
yourselves to be mild, non-aggressive people, this drive to be first
and to triumph will be powerfully active with you. If you join forces
to accomplish a task, nothing will stop you. If you compete solely
with each other, someone is likely to get hurt - badly. These are
issues that will inevitably be faced at some time in your relationship.
